Philippines bans Chinese food products from school canteens

Manila - The Philippines has banned the sale of imported Chinese food products in school canteens amid reports that the goods contain cancer-causing formaldehyde, the education department said Thursday. In a memo to all public schools, the Department of Education also instructed officials to inform students the possible health risks from eating the Chinese food products, which include candies and biscuits. 'School officials are enjoined to disseminate the information to the school populace and to see to it that school canteens do not have such food products for sale,' the memo said. Undersecretary Vilma Labrador said the ban was issued after tests by the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) showed that several Chinese food products were positive for formaldehyde. 'The ban is a measure that the department has taken to ensure the health and safety for school children,' she said. Among the Chinese products tested by the BFAD and found to contain formaldehyde were the White Rabbit Cream Candy, Milk Candy, Bairong Grape Biscuits, and Yong Kang Foods Grape Biscuit. The Philippine government has already banned the import of these products, but the goods are still being sold in many shops in the country despite the warning. Formaldehyde, a colourless, flammable strong gas, has been classified as a human carcinogen by the International Agency for Research and as a probable human carcinogen by the US Environmental Protection Agency. © 2007 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur

First, they poison American pets and children, now they're poisoning Phillipine children? Check your pet food if you live in that country! The Chinese are so corrupt and uncaring it's sickening.
